the rules
holding & applying
For the time being the character limit is three, and you may not play two characters from the same tale/fable. Spread the love!

We're not planning on being restrictive in terms of played-bys. Use models, use singers, use actors and actresses. Our only request is that the person you choose has a wide range of facial expressions! After saying all of this, please also understand that we reserve the right to reject a played-by if we feel that they won't jive or aren't otherwise appropriate.

Please keep your played-by's age appropriate in reflection to your character! We know that some people have baby faces, and we'll take that into consideration, but please be mindful.

You must fill out the hold form, including the 'concept' portion. We understand if you need to put a 'tbd or brb,' because you're on your phone, but please remember to come back to put it in! It helps us avoid conflict if we know important details about your character and their powers in advance.

character conduct
Please don't god-mode. Please don’t meta-game. For those of you who aren't in the know, god-modding is when a player determines the actions of a character who they do not play. For example, just because Snow White and the Prince were a couple by the end of that fairy tale, doesn’t mean that one of those players can decide they’re dating in game without consulting the other.

Meta-gaming is when your character is in the know about something they could not possibly know in game. This can include 'lucky hunches' and 'reaches,' or if your character is exceptionally good at putting two and two together. If Character A and Character B are secretly hooking up, your character cannot see her smile at him and automatically know that they're involved. If you think that your character could feasibly reach for something, ask the players involved! Again, communication never hurts.

Although this is going to be a pretty low-key game, let's be honest! Real life has the potential to get really shitty sometimes. As it is with every game, we need to be notified about big plots. If your character is going to get fired, get married, be imprisoned, or do something huge, let us know! This is primarily so that we can help out if needed. We can throw things up on the plot calendar, give suggestions, or whatever else you need in order to make your plot the best it can be!

On the flip-side, there are some plots in this game that we have no interest in pursuing. We have no interest in seeing plots involving rape, sexual abuse, physical abuse, or suicide. Period.

player conduct
At the end of the day, we all have one thing in common. We love to write. We love the pursuit of writing and all of the things that come with it. In the same vein, at the end of the day, this is just a game and we want everyone to have fun! Nothing ruins that faster than OOC drama. So please, please communicate, be open, and be considerate of your fellow players and moderators!

We understand that sometimes there are issues and certainly it's impossible to like everyone, but if you are having issues with another player, try speaking with them frankly about it. Nine times out of ten it's either miscommunication or is a super simple fix! People are reasonable when you give them the chance. That being said, if you do need us to intervene or mediate, please don’t hesitate to shoot us an email at EMAILHERE @ gmail.com. We can't help if we aren't aware that something is wrong.

IC/OOC separation is perhaps the most important part of the rules, period. Just because a character might say something rude, vulgar, sexist, or whatever else does not mean that the player is that way. As people, we often don't like to admit fault, but for the sake of everyone, ask yourself frankly and honestly: Is this character being OOC or am I taking this personally/OOCly? If you genuinely feel there is a problem, even if it includes a mod, please come to us! This is a very important topic and we want to make sure everything and everyone feels comfortable.

When one character is being "out of character," it makes it impossible for others to stay 'in character.' We said this in the FAQ, but feel it bears repeating: keep in mind that characters tend to judge others by their actions and not their intentions. Your character is not a mind-reader. Your character should not automatically know the motivations behind what everyone does. Be honest with yourself. Be honest with others! For example! If your character is a dick or a bitch or a whatever else to someone, they probably won’t lay down and take it. This doesn’t mean that the player hates you or is upset with you. Please be realistic about expectations when playing prickly characters, even if they aren’t prickly to everyone.

activity requirements
Activity checks will be posted at the beginning of the month in the ooc community (yes, you read that right) and players will be able to comment anytime throughout the month when their activity is completed. We will issue reminders near the end of the month to comment linking activity. We're hoping this method offers more flexibility for both mods and players, instead of worrying about commenting and linking things at the very end of the month, you'll be able to reply whenever you want/whenever you complete activity.

On each check players will be asked to link two items of activity for each character. The following count as activity:

A journal entry (posted by you) where your character has made at least twenty comments.
A log, thread, or narrative.
A comment thread of at least 50 comments (your character would only be responsible for making roughly half of that 50).
Two social media posts (these can be twitter, instagram, or whatever else).
An IC/OOC posted by you. An IC/OOC where your character replied at least ten times.
Writing an article, making a plot post, or playing an NPC for the mods.
Creating and running a challenge (for more details see this page).
You cannot link two "ooc activity" items for one character (so a challenge or playing an npc or any form of activity that does not relate to the character you're linking it for). For example, you couldn''t link a challenge and an article as your activity for Rachel Green (unless Rachel happened to be the IC author of the article you wrote). We would like at least one of your activity items for each character to be you playing the character, whether it's in comments, logs, blog posts, or whatever else.

Players requiring a hiatus should comment on the hiatus page. Hiatuses lasting longer than a week can count as one piece of activity. But please don't make a habit of frequently using hiatuses as activity. We understand that everyone will do it now and then, but if we notice that you're doing it on every check we may email to discuss it with you, and if the problem persists you might be asked to drop a character.
